Matt Ewer

CEO & Co-founder of Green BEAN Delivery, Tiny Footprint Distribution, Feel Good Farm, and EcOhio Farm.

Matt Ewer’s investment in the local food economy started at the tender age of eight, when he went door-to-door in his hometown of Marion, Indiana, hawking sweet corn from his family farm out of a beat up red wagon. Early on, Ewer recognized the importance of connecting rural and urban communities. He honed his skills in college, garnering an Environmental Management degree from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs department. After graduating in 2000, Ewer worked at Stranger’s Hill Organics in Bloomington, Ind., for two seasons. He then pursued his exploration of organics further by moving to Washington State with his new wife, Elizabeth Blessing. While in Seattle for four years, he was the General Manager of Full Circle Farm which has been named “one of the most successful small farms in the country” by US News & World Report. In 2007, Ewer (along with his wife, Elizabeth Blessing) brought experience in buying, growing and selling large volumes of produce and natural products back to the Midwest where he launched Green BEAN Delivery.

What’s your LEAST favorite harvest from our farms, and why?

Okra – It’s the worst. It has tiny little spines on the outside of the plant. They get into your arms, hands, eyes, etc. If you are not prepared and properly dressed to pick this crop it will certainly get the best of you. That being said all vegetables are hard to harvest.

What’s your favorite quote?

Troy Roush (who operates my parents farm) says at the end of Food Inc. – “You have to understand that we are farmers….we’re going to deliver to the market place what the market demands. If you want to buy $2 milk, your going to get a feed block in your back yard, it’s that simple.

People have to start demanding good wholesome food of us and WE’LL DELIVER. I promise you we’re very ingenious people. We’ll DELIVER.”
