Good morning and happy Saturday!
A couple weeks ago my husband approached me and said we need to have a serious conversation…about having more nachos in our lives. LOL! Okay, well that’s an easy problem to fix, especially since next Saturday is Cinco de Mayo. No better time to get more nachos into our lives.
A Feast for Your Fiesta
Cinco de Mayo is a fun holiday to celebrate on the weekend because you can have friends and family over, cook up a feast and have yourself a fiesta! And, there is nothing better than homemade Mexican food made with quality ingredients. Check out our Cinco de Mayo section in the store which is dedicated to quality ingredients that are commonly used in Mexican cuisine.
Our kids love nothing more than helping in the kitchen and having people over. My kids have a sophisticated palate and I believe some of their adventurous eating comes from the fact that they love to help in the kitchen.
Believe it or not, when kids are involved in the cooking process they are more likely to try new things. I’ve seen it with my kids and when I have worked in public schools teaching nutrition. Wait, I thought we were talking about Cinco de Mayo and a fiesta…
Pulled Pork Nachos!!!
We were, so let’s get back to “needing more nachos in our lives”. An easy way to get your kids involved in the kitchen is by making nachos together.
Nothing is easier than layering ingredients on top of chips, and it lets kids use their creativity. Using quality ingredients is a sure-fire way to make healthy food in the kitchen. Yes, nachos can be healthy!
When you are using ingredients like grass-fed beef and cheese, pasture-raised pork, organic beans and tortilla chips, and piling on an assortment of organic veggies you are definitely creating a healthy version of what, often times, is junk food. And, this might be a way for your kids to discover they actually like avocado or tomatoes. It is one of the tricks I have up my sleeve and use from time to time to get my kids to try new things—let them cook! So, let your kids cook with you this Cinco de Mayo and let us all have more nachos in our lives!
Here are the nachos we are making next Saturday—just one of the dishes we will be enjoying during our fiesta. Enjoy!
