Local & Unique Goodies for Your Foodie Friends & Family

The holiday season has begun, and whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or even St. Lucia Day, this is the gift giving time of year. You might be like me and have family and friends who are foodies and love the gift of food or drink, and they may be especially grateful when it comes from a local farmer or artisan. Here are a couple of gift pack ideas that I have created for my family and friends this year!

Pairings for the Charcuterie Enthusiast

I kind of created this bundle thinking of myself. Well, more like for my family when we host Christmas Eve dinner at our house. We all love charcuterie boards—unique cheeses, cured meats, and pickled veggies! It is a perfect appetizer to start our family feast!

Caprini Creamery Cracked Pepper Chevre: Caprini Creamery is a goat dairy farm located 40 miles east of Indianapolis. They have some of the most delicious varieties of goat cheese, chevre, and feta cheese. Their cracked pepper chevre is a soft spreadable cheese with a bold peppery kick. Spread it on your favorite artisanal crackers and top with some cured meat and life is good!

Ludwig Farmstead Creamery Jake’s Wheel: Ludwig Farmstead Creamery produces European style artisan farmstead cheese that is made in small batches with day-fresh milk from their own Holstein and Jersey cows that are antibiotic-free, hormone-free, and humanely raised. Their Jake’s Wheel is made with raw milk and is a Havarti-style cheese that is aged for 60+ days. This is one of my husband’s favorite cheeses and mine too! Sweet cream flavor that is mild but provides a rich aftertaste.

Smoking Goose Sliced Capocollo: Smoking Goose is located in Indianapolis and one of our first vendors at Green Bean! They partner with small, family farms in Indiana and the Midwest to create artisanal smoked meats, salumi, and sausages. They source only humanely-raised animals that are never fed antibiotics or hormones, only a 100% vegetarian diet. They butcher by hand and cure without compound nitrites. Their Capocollo di Dorman is an Italian-cured pork shoulder with a touch of paprika and chili which provide a little kick!

Smoking Goose Delaware Fireball: The Delaware Fireball Salame is one of the original salami created at Goose. It’s a ball of fire and flavor! It’s made of coarse ground pork, crushed chili, espelette pepper and garlic, and then dry aged and cold smoked over hickory wood.

Oloves Basil and Garlic Green Olives: I love me some olives! Oloves are so convenient to throw into lunches or my bag for a snack, but I also like to add them to a charcuterie board or drop a few into my Bloody Mary! Our favorite right now is the basil and garlic green olives.

Selects for a Sweet Tooth

The Sweet Tooth pack of goodies was inspired by my in-laws because both my mother and father-in-law have a sweet tooth! My mother-in-law is a chocoholic and my father-in-law loves, well, anything sweet, so I gathered up a group of local, sweet goodies to make both of them happy!

Grateful Grahams Original Snack Pack: Grateful Grahams are some of my favorite treats we sell! They are from the Cincinnati area and make small batch, handmade vegan graham treats. Made with real ingredients and a whole lot of love! Besides the original flavor, there is chocolate and chocolate chunk.

BeeFree Snickerdoodle Cookie: BeeFree is from Noblesville, IN (where I grew up) and they make amazing gluten free and dairy free treats (some of which are paleo friendly)! I got hooked on their snickerdoodle cookies because my middle child doesn’t like chocolate (WHAT??? Crazy, I know!) and I was looking for a chocolate-free cookie for him. Their snickerdoodle cookie was a perfect fit—it’s cinnamon-y sweet, tastes great, and is kid approved! You can buy these cookies in a 6-pack or single pack.

LuckyGuy Brownie—Iconic: My dear sweet LuckyGuy Bakery—how I love thee! A bakery from Bloomington, IN that makes crazy-good brownies! Small batch, made by hand, and using real ingredients. The iconic brownie is for the chocolate lover which is exactly what my mother-in-law is without a doubt. Slabs of dark chocolate are used to make this brownie—it is rich, and it is good! Try warming it up and adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Brendle’s Honey Bear: Brendle’s Honey Farm is from Indianapolis. They make delicious honey and bee pollen. I love their raw honey and it is a staple in my kitchen, but I love to gift the honey bear because, well, it is so darn cute! Brendle’s honey has a bold, strong flavor that any honey fan will love!

Bissell Maple Farm Maple Syrup: Bissell Maple Farm is from Northwest Ohio. They have been making maple syrup since the late 1800’s! The Bissell’s make pure, delicious, and sweet grade A maple syrup that is delicious added to oatmeal, on top of pancakes, or a dip for your breakfast sausage.

Varieties for the Local Coffee Lovers

I have a ton of coffee lovers in my family and a few that truly appreciate the local roasters and the unique coffees they have to offer. This gift pack idea was inspired by one of my brothers and my sister, who in the nicest and most loving way, are coffee snobs, I mean enthusiasts.

Copper Moon, Ground Coffee, Rainforest-Organic: Copper Moon is in Lafayette, IN. Their Rainforest blend is 100% fair trade and certified organic—two important aspects to consider when buying coffee. It’s a medium roast and has a smooth and bold flavor.

Kaldi’s Coffee, French Roast: Kaldi’s Coffee is located in St. Louis, MO. They sustainably source and small batch roast their beans. Their French Roast is their darkest roast with beans from Central America. It has dark bittersweet caramel notes with almost no acidity. One of my favorite coffees!

Seven Hills, Highlander Grogg: Seven Hills Coffee is from Cincinnati. They are dedicated to sourcing high quality coffee beans from small farms and cooperatives. Highlander Grogg is a flavored coffee that is buttery and maple syrup-y in taste and aroma. I was told Highlander Grogg is supposed to taste like Scottish Brandy. It makes for a perfect cup of coffee on the weekend when you are curled up in a blanket, relaxing and enjoying the moment.

Limelight Coffee Roasters, Brutally Honest: Limelight Coffee Roasters is from Indianapolis. They are a small, handcrafted coffee roasting company. The Brutally Honest is a “deep and dark” blend of medium and dark coffee beans from Africa, South America, and Indonesia. It has a mixture of flavors such as berry, chocolate, and slight nuttiness. It’s perfect for single-pour espresso or pour-over coffee which is exactly why I picked this for my brother and sister because they make pour-over coffee every. single. morning.
