Simple Better-for-You Breakfast Hacks

A healthy breakfast has many health benefits! It improves your energy levels and ability to concentrate in the short term, and can help with better weight management, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease in the long term.

Benefits of Breakfast

Children and adolescents who regularly eat breakfast also tend to perform better academically compared to those who skip breakfast. Breakfast helps improve memory, concentration, and attention in school-aged children. They also tend to have fewer behavior problems are more energetic and are more likely to maintain a healthy weight.

Despite the benefits of breakfast for your health and well-being, many people often skip it, for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is the lack of time available in the morning before you head out the door for the day. The good news is there are plenty of ways to make it easier to fit breakfast into your day.

Research has shown that school-aged children are more likely to eat breakfast if easy-to-prepare breakfast foods are readily available at home. The same goes for adults who are often rushing off to work because of early starts, long commutes, and/or busy morning schedules.

Ideas to help fit breakfast in before you head off to start your day:

  • If you are someone who likes to cook, try preparing some quick and healthy breakfast foods the night before or on the weekend such as muffins and breakfast breads, overnight oats, breakfast granola bars, baked oatmeal, hardboiled eggs, and large batches of smoothies. These are easy to grab and go!
  • Keep some breakfast foods at work and enjoy once you arrive.
  • Set your alarm 10-15 minutes earlier than usual to give you time to eat breakfast.
  • Prepare for the next day the night before to free up time in the morning for breakfast.
  • If you are someone who prefers pre-made, quick, and easy breakfast foods for your morning, here are some great options you can add to your bin!
