Summer Food Program
Gleaners Food Bank, located in Indianapolis, has been running an important program over the summer called “Summer Meals for Kids!” The purpose of the program is to provide meals for rural kids in the summer months when school is out. There were many rural counties participating in the program, including: Hancock, Scott, Ripley, Union, Jennings and Jefferson counties.
Here is what our friends and partners at Gleaners had to say about our partnership:
“Gleaners and its community partners are ecstatic that children were able to receive fresh produce from Green BEAN Delivery through the Gleaners “Summer Meals for Kids!” Program. On many occasions, volunteers have thanked us for offering fresh items and reported that the kids were anxious to take more apples, oranges, or bananas home to their family at the end of the meal. We know that for many children who live in rural areas with little to no access to affordable produce; it was the only fruits or vegetables that they received throughout the entire summer. Green BEAN has been a tremendous partner in our fight to defeat childhood hunger and was essential in our efforts to improve the nutritional quality of our summer meals this year.”
Until hunger becomes a thing of the past, Gleaners’ work is imperative. We are proud to be able to partner with such a great organization by helping to provide kids with healthy fruits and vegetables during the summer months.
