Developing a healthier, active community doesn’t just start and end with a fitness center, but rather through community involvement led by a knowledgeable staff that is passionate about their client’s wellness. After attending the recent Mini-Marathon Training Orientation at the National Institute for Fitness and Sports (NIFS), I experienced a glimpse of this dedication that the NIFS staff has for the wellness of the Indianapolis community. An extensive 14-week training program that highlights an exceptional exercise regimen for each participant embodies the concept of community wellness.
The National Institute for Fitness and Sports was established in 1985 as a non-profit. Through a collaboration of grants provided by the Lilly Endowment, the State of Indiana, and the City of Indianapolis, they were able to create a center that provides the necessary options for the growing need in public health. Their 120,000 square-foot facility opened their doors on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis on November 1, 1988, featuring an impressive 65,000 square-foot, state of the art fitness center.
Beyond NIFS top notch facility, they offer many other valuable services for retirement communities, corporations, and organizations across the United States. Their Fitness Center Management provides award winning solutions for diverse clienteles, including small businesses, Fortune 100 companies, and aging retirement communities. Their unique online wellness program called Health YOUniversity provides clients in different states the ability for Electronic Health Coaching, Teleconference Wellness Lectures, Behavior Modification Programs, and much more. The NIFS Youth Development team hosts field trips for all ages that in turn educate more than 15,000 kids at the facility each year.
Having some of the most up-to-date equipment in the fitness industry, it’s no surprise that over 4,000 people choose NIFS as their workout destination. Green B.E.A.N.
