Huli Huli Chicken Wings Recipe – Cooking with Sun King

Give your chicken wings a flavor boost with the addition of fresh pineapple in this twist on the classic Hawaiian Huli Huli Chicken recipe. The acidity of the pineapple brightens up the smoky flavor of the grilled chicken wings. This dish is sure to please a crowd!

  1. In a large mixing bowl stir together the soy sauce, brown sugar, beer, pineapple juice, tomato paste, vinegar, ginger, and garlic. Remove 1/3 cup of the mixture, cover, and set aside.
  2. Sprinkle the chicken on all sides with salt.
  3. Add the chicken to the mixing bowl with the marinade (or add it all to a large ziplock bag), cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 6.
  4. In a 350 oven, bake the chicken wings for 30-35 min to render out some of the fat and make grilling easier! This can be done a day in advance, please be sure to take wings out of the cooler for 30-45 min before grilling.
  5. Preheat the grill to medium-high.
  6. Brush the chicken with the reserved 1/3 cup marinade and turn every few minutes until cooked through about 8 minutes.
  7. Remove the chicken and pineapple from the grill, add to a serving platter.
  8. Sprinkle with green onions.
