It’s Memorial Day weekend and we couldn’t be happier that it’s finally here! Even though I have one child still in school, we are feeling those summer vibes this extended weekend. Grilling out, pool time, and hanging with our friends and family—we hope you are enjoying some of the same!
Sôlt – Handcrafted Sea Salts
Have you tried the gourmet salt from Sôlt out of Indianapolis? The first bottle I tried was the Pacific Ocean. Big grains of salt harvested from the Pacific Ocean—it had me dreaming about my days living in Seattle. I was hooked!
We LOVE the Roasted Garlic on our oven roasted potatoes. I cut fingerling potatoes into French fries or Yukon gold or red potatoes into Buffalo chips and drizzle with La Tourangelle Avocado Oil. Add a dash or two of Roasted Garlic Gourmet Salt and roast in the oven for 20 minutes on 450°F. My kids call them fries (but I know they are MUCH healthier) and love to dip them in LocalFolks Foods ketchup. Matt and I gobble them up, as is. Perfect side dish for the grilling season!
And don’t forget the Sriracha flavor! If you like to spice things up in the kitchen, this blend is for you. Add it to eggs, avocado toast, grilled chicken breasts, or the rim of that race day Bloody Mary!
La Tourangelle Avocado Oil
And speaking of avocado oil—if you don’t already use this oil, you need to get it into your daily diet! Avocado oil contains high levels of oleic acid, a very healthy omega-9 monounsaturated fat, the same heart healthy fat found in olive oil.
Avocado oil is great for high heat cooking (where olive oil is not) because of its high smoke point. It, also, has a nice, mild flavor making it my go-to vegetable oil when making homemade mayonnaise. It’s also great for your skin and hair! I like to rub it into my hands when I’m cooking in the kitchen.
Between my toddler slamming down avocado slices, and the rest of us gobbling it up in guacamole or avocado spread, we are going through avocados like crazy in our house! The organic avocados we’ve been getting are nothing less than awesome. And, just like avocado oil, they are packed with that super heart healthy oleic acid!
Did you see my Facebook post the other day about a simple and flavorful way to eat avocados? I was taught this tidbit by a French Chef I used to work with—cut the avocado in half lengthwise, remove the seed, pour balsamic vinegar into the hole where the seed was, and top with salt and fresh pepper. Hmm, or maybe some of Sriracha Gourmet Salt from Sôlt.
